Aurora – Lapland, 2004 February
Feb 28 2005
The Northern Light pictures on this page are taken in the town of Kolari N 67°33.47 E 23°80.53, about 200 km north of the polar circle. It is the northernmost railway station of Finland and winters are very long up there. But so are their aurora displays!
It had freezing -30°C outside. Unfortunately, the batteries of my camera refused to work after every third shot or so and I had to warm it up inside my coat. When I had reached the most beautiful spot on the frozen stream Muonionjoki, the camera had already stopped its cooperation completely.
Therefore, I have more memories than pictures of this event. But the few images probably give quite a good impression of how you feel when you can see your own shadow created by the green aurora light in the snow.
